Growing up, I spent a lot of time in nature. I loved climbing trees, picking fresh fruit, and enjoying the sounds of life all around me. I don't think I would be the person I am today without that foundation. There's something about the natural world that grounds you, calms you, and helps you refocus. I believe that "something" is God.
Genesis talks about the creation of Earth, and it's certainly a wonder to read. Everything He made He called good, and the creation process is one of the most memorable parts of the Bible. I believe every part of nature, whether it's a local park, a mountain range, or a valley, has a little bit of God in it. The beauty and splendor of His creation is what He might use to minister to us.
I couldn't stand the cold as a child, the frigid air seeming to pierce me no matter how bundled I was, and the snow made walking difficult at times. However, those experiences taught me about adversity, and what it takes to overcome it (no matter how small).
Nowadays, we don't have as much time to enjoy nature as we did in the past, but I encourage you to take some time out — even to look outside your window — and really consider at what God has created. The sun, trees, and clouds were all made with you in mind, and I believe it would please Him if you enjoyed it.
We were born to be in His constant presence, and the natural world is just another way of getting closer to Him.
